Welcome and thank you for visiting our website. The Bath House On Fourth is an original idea locally owned and operated. This idea for a boutique style Bath store started 15 years ago when I moved into one of the highest residential city cores in Canada, the downtown West End in Vancouver. It was a really nice apartment overlooking English Bay. When I started unpacking I realized that all my bathroom décor items and most of my towels did not match the green counter tops, toilet and bathtub. So the next day, I started to hunt around the West End for bath stuff. I went as far as looking at department stores. To my surprise there was virtually nothing and what I did find were tacky, poor quality and lack of taste. I remembered that there was a great bath boutique store in Langley, the suburb I just moved from. Needless to say I traveled all the way back out to Langley and bought all my bathroom stuff there. So I asked myself why hasn’t anyone opened up a bath boutique store with tasteful quality products in the West End? Especially in a highly populated area where there is a tremendous turn over in people moving in and out of apartments every month. Just like me, these people are looking to match up some new décor for their new bathrooms. I really liked the idea and thought about it over the last 15 years. Over this time the timing was off and or the resources was not there to follow this venture.

When I parted ways from management in the Hotel industry it seemed like the right time to open up the store I have been dreaming about for so many years. Although 2007 was one of the worst years of my life I decided to do it. So I said to a very good friend who was one of the very few people I had told this idea to “I would like to open up that bath store now”. Dru replied,” why don’t we”? Not only did Dru like my idea, she also wanted to venture into the business with me. When we looked into the West End for retail places, there were few and far between. So we settled with a small store here on West 4th Avenue. West 4th (Kitsilano) area is as well a high residential area similar to the West End. Being so close to the West End we can service that customer base as well. Better than going to Langley.

The store we wanted was quite different than most bath or home décor stores you have visited. First thing was to make it only a bath store. No kitchen or other household items. Everything that we sell relates to a bathroom. This way we specialize in an area that customers can rely on us for. Second we wanted a store to feel like a bathroom when you walked in. I think we accomplished that feel thanks to our designer Kate Lee. Our contractor and custom cabinetmaker, Nightingale Custom Builders took care of the rest. With Dru’s great sense of décor and my practical sense of décor (which means not much décor sense) filled in the final touches. Again to be different we wanted to carry products that other stores did not. Some of the products we sell are also trying to help our environment. We sell 100% Organic cotton bath towels and Bamboo bath towels. We carry hand-made natural soaps and oils. All our soaps and oils are also Canadian made. We also made sure that our shopping bags were recyclable. Besides being different with the towels we also carry a unique line of Hookless shower curtains.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

The name I had for many years some people liked or disliked. It comes from the ancient way of having baths. In the days of the Greeks, Romans and even today in the modern Japanese society, people went to a Bath House to have a bath. It was a public or private thing to do.

Today the meaning Bath House has various connotations. Get over it and come to a place that will transcend you back into enjoying one of the most relaxing places in your household.
